Well tehn...

Looks like my idea isn't too likely now anyway. Going on the Russian trip on Tuesday, so by the time I get back one of the other ideas will probably have been adopted by the group. That's not really a problem, because I know it'll probably turn out better, but it's a bit annoying on a personal level.
So I thought I'd write a post with the short summary I wrote up for my opening, and see what response is like... maybe Burby and Rob/Henry could do it too, as a "questionaire".
Anyway-

A man and a woman are walking down a road in quite high spirits- the girl looks drunk- and enter her apartment. The atmosphere we're presented with seems amorous, but this is shattered by his sudden stabbing of the girl- it comes out of nowhere, no music to set it up. He leaves quietly- no fuss, no real expression on his face.
We see him walking the streets, high angle shots mixed with closer ones, accompanied by music, there having been none up to this point (I'm currently thinking Swallow by Placebo- sounds "filmy"). The title credits are superimposed over these shots. Eventually he arrives at his own place, and as the music stops a close up of his face either dissolves or cuts into a shot of him sitting on a bus the next day- he could suddenly wake up if the cut technique gets used, but this might look comical. The opening would end o this shot, or on footage of passengers looking at him (his POV) followed by another shot of him looking away, then an extenal shot of the bus pulling up somewhere.

Comments please- Jon

Jon - like the sudden shock technique - it would certainly provide a jolt for your audience if it was well executed (no pun intended). Not so sure about the wake-up - does that mean 'it was all a dream'?- can be a bit of a cliche...
ending on a pov sounds interesting - becoming more subjective while previously being more detached from your main character?
Enjoy Russia...

You're right Burby, that was the kind of thing I wanted to get across. Might be difficult to show in an opening, but if it was an entire film I'd definitely want to deal with that issue... that will be all, carry on.

You're right Burby, that's what I'd like to express... might be tricky in a short opening though. And the wake up bit strikes me as somewhat cheesy now... thanks for knocking some sense in my general direction sir
